Dedicated to the memory of Hammy

This site is a tribute to Hammy. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

'Hammy' was the childhood nickname that stuck and was used by the friends of Clive Nicholas Hansford for most of his life. He was born in Branscombe on May 21st, 1952. He learnt from his fisherman father how to sail a boat at a very early age and his love of the sea was an enduring passion throughout his life. He served in the Royal Navy as a young man as an artificer moving on to use those skills in his work life in a varied career as an electronic engineer. His hobbies were always leading him back to the sea as an extremely competent sailor with many channel crossings under his belt as well as being an experienced dive leader.  Another of his hobbies was his time as a volunteer with The Royal Naval Auxiliary Service, from his early 30s he enjoyed the training and opportunities to go to sea until it was disbanded in 1994.

He married Kathy and lived in mid Devon for most of his adult life having two lovely daughters, Emma and Sophie, who have many happy memories of sailing and spending time on the beach with him.

He retired to Teignmouth after 15 years after working at Southwest Telecommunications to be close to his beloved sea. He volunteered for Teignmouth Coastwatch which was a charity close to his heart and had many exciting adventures with his partner Wendy.
